Is Your Favorite Ski Slope A Dead Zone?

Network coverage is at times less than satisfactory especially where there are hills or mountains like in a ski resort. Have you ever experienced spotty mobile network coverage while skiing in your favorite ski area? There is often no cell service throughout the ski slopes - zero reception for miles! It is a safety hazard not providing cell coverage throughout the mountain. But, remember - when coverage sucks use SMS! It is a good solution sending SMS in the mountain when you have no coverage because short messages wait in your outgoing mobile server and may be immediately sent if you get even a very limited connection.

SMS Info on cross-country ski trails

Czech skiers have been blessed with plentiful snow in the country's mountains since late November. Starting now, cross-country skiing enthusiasts - customers of T-Mobile - have yet another way to get information on the condition and grooming of cross-country ski trails, in addition to checking their status on the internet: For trails in the Sumava and Jizerske hory ranges, skiers can also get such information just by sending an SMS.

How it works? Skiers can learn, by means of an SMS, when their favorite trails were last groomed or locate the newest trail in a given area. As soon as a snow groomer sets out on a trail, its position is constantly monitored by GPS. And each time a particular trail is passed over by a groomer, it is considered freshly groomed and this information is automatically transferred into the SMS Info system. Skiers can then plan the best route for their trip well in advance.
