Borovets

Borovets Ski ResortBorovets is situated on the Northern slopes of Rila Mountain. It is located at 1350 m above sea level and lies among centuries-old pine woods. Borovets is at the foot of Moussala Peak (2925m) – the highest peak on the Balkans. The closest town to Borovets is Samokov, only 12 km away. The capital Sofia lies 73 km to the north-east from Borovets. Also, the second largest city in Bulgaria, Plovdiv, is situated 126 km to the east from Borovets.

Dating back from the 19th century, Borovets is the oldest winter resort in Bulgaria. The resort was established in 1896 as a hunting place for the Bulgarian monarchs. Today visitors can still see the kings’ residence in the outskirts of Borovets. Since then it has developed into a modern ski resort with luxury hotels and restaurants of high-class. Its ski runs and lifts are situated along the slopes of the highest Bulgarian mountain and compose a network of excellent sports facilities. Borovets provides excellent opportunities for Alpine skiing, night-skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, ski jumps and biathlon. Borovets has ski runs for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers. All of them are designed with international markings and multilingual signs.

A fact worth noticing is that Borovets hosted twice the World Cup Alpine skiing rounds, while its biathlon track is acknowledged as one of the best in the world.
